Your Hawaiʻi
is ready.

A note from a local

"Acclimate at the Visitor Center (9,200ft) for 30+ minutes before going higher, or altitude sickness will ruin the night. The summit is sacred to Native Hawaiians — be quiet and respectful."

A note from a local

"Check the USGS Kīlauea status that morning — the glow comes and goes. If Pele's putting on a show, the Keanakākoʻi overlook is less crowded than the main lot."

A note from a local

"Ask for a peaberry tasting — most farms only have a small batch and won't push it unless you ask. Hala Tree and Hula Daddy are run by the families themselves."

A note from a local

"It's federal law: 10 feet from the honu, no flash photos, and never touch them — even a gentle pat can sicken them. Pair the stop with malasadas from Punaluʻu Bake Shop a mile up the road."
